New Monastery Complex proposed for St. Tikhon's

I suppose that much could be said about the proposed plans St. Tikhon's Monastery has to develop a new monastery complex to replace its current digs. My general take on church-related building projects is: "unless the Lord builds the house, its labourers labour in vain." All I can say for now is that these drawings (by architect Andrew Gould) are the stuff of my childhood dreams. These are incredibly beautiful and inspiring designs.... now for prayerful souls to live between these walls.

There is one new monastery building already adjacent to the old monastery housing unit. The old unit is filled with black mold and needs to be torn down to the studs if not completely rebuilt. The older monks remain in their old rooms; the new unit is pretty much full with new monks and novices - in their 20s and 30s, it seems. In short, the primary need you ID - "prayerful souls" - is being pursued there in a way that hasn't taken place in as conscious and deliberate a way for many years.
